A cornerstone of UMD UAS Research and Operations Center (UROC) operations is educating the public on engineering, technology, liability, safety, and privacy matters related to the integration of UAS into the national airspace. UROC experts rely on their experiences in civil and military manned aviation, expertise with unmanned systems, relationships with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and UAS manufacturers, and connection to the University of Maryland A. James Clark School of Engineering to identify and raise awareness of regulations, rules, and operations in the best interest of aviators, businesses, public agencies, researchers, and citizens.
Our engineers, pilots, and project managers are available to host demonstrations, present at public or private events, partner with K-12, college, or informal educators, and more. Organizations that UROC has worked with to raise awareness include:
- St. Mary’s County Public Schools
- The Patuxent River Naval Air Museum
- Experimental Aircraft Association
- Society of Test Engineers
- Florida Institute of Technology
- University of Maryland, Baltimore County
- Mid-Atlantic Crop Management School
- Nextgov
Test site experts have also participated in the following events:
- Maryland Day
- Hops and Drones
- Tech and Tequila
- Mid-Atlantic Life Safety Conference
- FAA UAS Symposium
- UAS Technical Analysis and Applications Center Conference
- AUVSI XPONENTIAL
